A founding principle of SP01 is that we take a rigorous approach to the process of design and manufacture. We will always work with designers who share our vision.

The launch collection for SP01 was designed by Metrica, a Milan-based studio that designs elegant contemporary furniture for companies around the world.

METRICA

FORMERLY FATTORINI+RIZZINI+PARTNERS

Founded in 2009, the studio has an international outlook built on the bedrock of Italy's enviable design heritage, and Italian culture's emphasis on quality, craftmanship and beauty. Designed to be versatile and maintain a continuous dialogue with architecture, Metrica furniture is as at ease in a residential space as it is in a commercial project, able to respond to the unique demands of both environments. The studio's versatile designs are characterised by their contemporary form, an understanding of the delicate relationship between objects and volumes and a commitment to technological innovation in both materials and processes.

Metrica studio is defined not only by the beauty of their products, but the extraordinary pedigree of the company's co-founders. Chief designer Robin Rizzini spent six years working with design luminary Antonio Citterio and has designed for brands including Zanotta and Poliform.

Rizzini's experience is complemented and supported by the entrepreneurial approach and impressive industry experience of his co-founder Lucio Quinzio Leonelli. Leonelli, Metrica's President and Managing Partner, is a former Manager and Director of B&B Italia and Moooi and worked with Rizzini at Fattorini+Rizzini+Partners.

The design studio has a diverse and impressive range of clients, including Arper, Extremis, Fendi, MDF Italia, Poliform, Moooi and Zanotta, and now SP01.

Fattorini+Rizzini+Partners - now known as Metrica has received numerous design awards for their work including:

The SP01 Outdoor collection was designed by Tom Fereday, a rising star of industrial design, who as an Australian has an innate understanding of the impact environment can place on outdoor furniture.

Tom Fereday develops products based on the principle of honest design.

He is motivated by a belief in the need to design from the inside out. Key to his process is consideration and celebration of materials and manufacturing processes. Tom pursues intelligent and thoughtful design outcomes. He is interested in connecting people with objects through the use of natural materials and tactile finishes. He strives to create enduring designs which are meaningful to people and their environment.

Born in Australia, the designer grew up in England studying at the Wimbeldon School of Art before moving to Sydney to complete Honours in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. He founded his studio in 2012 and currently works across Europe and Australia.

Tom was the winner of the Space Furniture Design Residency in 2014, which saw him working with Marcel Wanders and Moooi in The Netherlands. Tom has also won numerous design awards including the 2015 Red Dot Design Award, and in 2009 the SOYA Awards which included a mentorship with Marc Newson.

In addition to SP01, Tom has designed furniture for Australian brands Dessein, Design By Them and Zenith, and a unisex watch range for Mister Wolf.

London-based industrial designer Tim Rundle has collaborated with SP01 to design the latest collection featuring a series of armchairs, occasional tables and mirrors, including the Michelle mirror which was previewed during Milan Design Week 2017.

Tim Rundle is a London based Industrial Designer with experience across furniture, lighting, consumer products and transport. Prior to forming his own studio in 2015, he led the product design teams at Tom Dixon and Conran & Partners.

The work of Tim Rundle Studio is driven by context, with a focus on the design of products and systems that exist at the intersection between architecture and its inhabitants, as well as research driven consultancy projects in materials and manufacturing. A preoccupation with simplicity, improvement and the pragmatic application of creativity; combined with a rigorous and knowledgeable approach to the technical aspects of industrial production leads to results that are, at the same time, useful, engaging and relevant.

Tim graduated from the School of Architecture and Design at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. He then began working for Auckland based consultancy Formworks Design where, among other projects, he worked on the concept for Air New Zealand’s ground breaking seating products ‘skycouch’ and ‘spaceseat’. In 2008 he relocated to London and was employed by the design consultancy Priestmangoode. He then went on to work for renowned British designer Tom Dixon, where he was head designer of the furniture and lighting design team. Prior to setting up his own studio in 2015 Tim was the Design Director for Product design at Conran and Partners, the multidisciplinary design studio founded by Sir Terence Conran.

Alongside his studio, Tim runs Platform 23 - Design for Manufacture, on the prestigious Design Products Masters program at the Royal College of Art.
