Susan Elo is a Helsinki-based furniture and interior designer. She graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki (now Aalto University).
Last year she received a five-year state grant for artists for her project Minä ja Metsä, The Forest and I. Apart from her work as a designer, Susan teaches furniture design at Aalto University.
Every ELO product is a unique individual, made with love and in small volumes. The process behind all the lamps and storage containers begins with the designer, the woodcutter and the fine carpenter selecting the suitable wood material. Some of the material grows in Susan’s own forest in Hanko, on the southern coast of Finland.
The carpenter makes the products by hand in Heinola, Southern Finland, and every one of them gets their own, unique grain patter – as it naturally appears. It is important for the creators that the products are of top quality, durable, toxic-free and environmentally sound. Respectful of the Finnish forest.
